Stop and Pray

It is another “My Song Saturday.” My plan for today was to use a song today I had previously written I titled “The Answer.” It is my personal favorite of all he lyrics I have written. I decided to put that on hold. Perhaps I will use it next week but if not, I know I will use it sometime.

As I have thought and prayed over the last few days, with so much fear and anxiety not only around the U.S. but all the world, Paul’s words to the Philippians kept going through my mind. These were the words:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4-8, New International Version).

I didn’t have anything like that in my lyrics library so I decided to write something new. Even when I write new music, I usually start with a tune to another song to help me with the meter. Mickey Gilley’s old song, “Talk to Me” had also been going through my head. The tune may eventually change but “Talk to Me” was my starting spot.

This morning I share with you, “Stop and Pray.”

Stop and Pray

On your knees, On your knees,
Anxious hearts you don’t need to be.
On your knees, on your knees,
Give God your praise, praise God and see.

Bow your head, bow your head,
Repent your wrongs, God will forgive
Bow your head, bow your head,
Repent past sin, and grace will live.

Lift your hands, lift your hands,
Ask God to meet your soul’s deep pleads.
Lift your hands, lift your hands,
Ask and see, forgives past deeds.

Fill your heart, fill your heart,
Can’t you see, your heart needs a shield.
Fill your heart, fill your heart,
I will follow, this day I yield.

You I praise, You I praise,
I repent and know you’ll forgive.
So I ask, so I ask
As I yield, I’ll love and live.

Stop and pray, stop and pray
Lord help us, protect us this day,
Stop and pray, stop and pray
Lord Jesus, help us, we need you today.

I won’t fear, I won’t fear
For your Spirit is with me here.
I won’t fear, I won’t fear
Peace for my soul, your peace is near.

My prayer today for each of you is really a repeat of Paul’s words to the Philippians:

Almighty God,
In these anxious times Lord, help us to remember you are near. Help us to control our anxiety with so much that seems out of control. With so many people in a panic and help us to not be anxious but to be a calming and loving influence for those around us with not only the virus but everything in our lives. Help us to be faithful in our prayers to you, to remember and be thankful for all you do for us. We come before you God you to guide leaders around the world because it is times like these we come to realize he need for real leadership. We ask that you guide the medical community around the world not only contain the virus but to eradicate it from our world. We pray too for ourselves that you will show us your ways to be generous and loving to all we encounter, knowing we have peace, your peace, a peace that transcends all understanding. We know so many people do not have that peace because they don’t have you. Help us, to show them the way to you and to share with them that you will guard all our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. It is in His name we pray. Amen.

I pray you have a blessed and peaceful day in the Lord.

Seeking the Genuine,
Keith
