Dance Girl Dance

It is another My Song Saturday. I had several things on my plate so I didn’t get a song written again this week but I have a few you haven’t seen before and this is one of them. Right after my youngest granddaughter, Sydney, was born in January, many of you will remember she gave us a scare. After she had come home but before she was a week old, she started having some problems. She was flown from Tyler, Texas to Dallas and spent six weeks in NICU. Having nothing else I could do but pray, I made a song for Sydney and it was part of my prayer. Some of you read “Hello Little Girl,” others have heard me sing it. I knew when Sydney came home and Cindy and I went to Tyler to see them, if I brought the song for Sydney I better have one for her big sisters too. As it turned out I needn’t have worried about Natalie. She is five and had way too many other interests besides her grandfather’s music. Jenna, on the other hand, was very interested. I have Jenna pictured above, is eight now. Obviously the picture was taken a few years ago. But, this is my favorite of Jenna’s dance pictures and I mention it in the song. Jenna loves dance and she seems to do well. Who am I kidding. She is the best one out there! But I am not partial at all. Never mind that I know virtually nothing about evaluating dance talent. I do know she gets through the dance which is more than her Gramps could do!! I was glad I got to write this song for her and mostly I appreciated the huge hug she gave me when I finished playing it for her and her parents.

This song is not a spiritual song. Still, I wanted to share it with you today. Dance Girl Dance has original lyrics. The tune is not original, it is sung to the tune of “Lord of the Dance.” I hope you enjoy reading it.

Oh, for those of you who know Cindy, is there any doubt whose Granddaughter Jenna is???

You’d sit in the grass when you were small,
Grab it in your hands even when it was too tall.
You’d lay in the grass and study and learn
But from the grass to dance you’d turn.

Dance girl, you really love to dance,
We can see your joy even at a glance,
Your steps move across the floor’s expanse,
You are happy and we see it so dance girl dance.

You looked real cute when you danced in red,
With short white boots a western look you had
You learned your steps and then showed us how
To dance with joy as you show us now.

Dance girl, you really love to dance,
We can see your joy even at a glance,
Your steps move across the floor’s expanse,
You are happy and we see it so dance girl dance.

At Christmas time you danced that special show,
As a reindeer you had a sleigh in tow,
The next time you gave the queen a gift
Work real hard and you’ll learn real swift.

Dance girl, you really love to dance,
We can see your joy even at a glance,
Your steps move across the floor’s expanse,
You are happy and we see it so dance girl dance.

Father, thank you from Jenna. Bless her as she grows up that she might be a woman after your heart. Amen.

We Search for God

Hear the birds, sing songs bright
Can’t hear God, in day or night
God speaks we hear not with ears
Is God near?

We search for God in how we feel,
Don't taste God in the meal,
We breathe and try to smell,
God's near, and my soul is well

Eyes that try fail to see,
That my God is near to me,
My senses are short of the mark
Sight's in the dark.

We search for God in how we feel,
Don't taste God in the meal,
We breathe and try to smell,
God's near, and my soul is well

We can feel what God made,
The Lord is near in what we taste,
Senses fail our souls do know ,
God’s near hearts grow.

God gives the rose for sight and smell,
Feel dog fur, hear church bells,
We taste and see God's good
Sense and soul I’ve understood.

Gifts of grace from God are good.

Sighs too Deep for Words

Today is Song Saturday. Each Saturday I bring you a poem or song lyrics from either an original poem/lyrics or perhaps from another poet/lyricist. Most weeks I have done fairly well at bringing original work. Today’s post is also original work.

Earlier this week, as I was working on something else I happened on Romans 8:26 (you can read the verse below). I’ve read it many times before as Romans 8 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. As I looked at it this week, the verse spoke to me. Yesterday I wrote the lyrics.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did writing it.

Song Lyrics Based on Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. (Romans 8:26, New Revised Standard Version).

Intro

Verse 1

With beaten soul, my world struck down,
Devoid hands look for Jesus’ crown
The pain grows deep, I seek a way,
Friend, where will my empty heart stay.

I’ve nothing left, but one small seed
Restore me this, broken soul pleads.
These broken strings play songs not heard
I pray with sighs too deep for words.

Prechorus

With my deep groans far out of tune,
Help me Lord to sing your song soon.

Chorus 1

No words to speak, no song to play,
I am empty, fill me I pray
These broken strings might play songs heard
I still pray with sighs too deep for words.

Verse 2

Temptation surrounds God’s people,
I’ll praise God, under the steeple,
Freedom calls me, fly like the birds,
We pray with sighs too deep for words.

Prechorus

Deep groans now coming into tune
I know I’ll sing God’s great song soon.

Chorus 2

I still can’t speak, no song to play,
I am empty, fill me I pray
New strings to strum play songs now heard
And l pray with sighs too deep for words.

Bridge

Spirit power enter I pray
Fill me with grace, your love to stay
Lord when I pray, you’ve always heard
Yet I pray, sighs too deep for words.

Chorus 3

For this old string, there’s life anew.
The sounds of Grace, you play here too.
God’s sounds are sung, your blessings heard
I speak with sighs too deep for words.

Have a blessed day in the Lord.

Keith

King of My Soul

As I usually do on Saturday, here are the lyrics to one of my songs. One day as I was listening to a Randy Travis CD and he sang his rendition of the Roger Miller classic, “King of the Road,” these lyrics started to come from my head. I don’t think I’ve ever tried to play it so the lyrics might not quite fit with the tune. If they don’t, my apologies. It isn’t the first time and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I love writing these things but it isn’t always easy to get the lyrics to fit the tune.

Sunday morning, time to sleep in, Spent last night out with my men,
Just jokes and havin’ some fun, Sunday mornin’ I feel like a bum.
I am, too tired for church you see, plus the game is important to me.
I don’t live for God you see, but I’m King of my soul.

Next week I promise I’ll show, I promised her that, long ago.
The wife, she’s heard all my lies, my tales, to her just no longer fly.
She says I better get my life straight, cause later on it will be too late.
My life seems to be falling apart but I’m, King of my soul.

Long ago God freed us with grace
Thought I was good, my mind drifted in space.
But now I know my excuses are lame,
Walkin’ with God now life won bet the same.

I no longer lie to my wife, Jesus gave me a whole new life.
I’ve faith, I’ve hope, I’ve peace,
I’ve got love and grace I know won’t cease.
He promises each day I’m free, keeps me from being old me.
I’m a man of grace upon grace, and He’s King of my Soul.

I’m apt to stumble and fall, but God, throws it out and forgives it all.
My family sees a new me, God’s buried my sins down deep in the sea.
There’s joy in living God’s way, sin’s price is too much to pay,
I’m a man of grace upon grace, and He’s King of my Soul.

Long ago God freed us with grace
Thought I was good, my mind drifted in space.
But now I know my excuses are lame,
Walkin’ with God now life won bet the same.

I no longer lie to my wife, Jesus gave me a whole new life.
I’ve faith, I’ve hope, I’ve peace
I’ve got love and grace I know won’t cease.
He promises each day I’m free, keeps me from being old me.

I’m a man of grace upon grace, and He’s King of my Soul.
I’m a man of grace, upon grace, He’s King of my Soul.

I pray your evening is blessed. May you also have a wonderful Lord’s day tomorrow.

Keith

Faith's the Key

It is another “My Song Saturday.” These are new lyrics I just completed this morning. The lyrics are to the tune of: “I’m Gonna Live Forever” by Ernie Haase and Signature Sound. I hope you enjoy Faith’s the Key

Let’s give praise to Jesus
He came and lived like one of us
On a cross He died for me.
I have faith and that’s the Key.

Let’s give praise to Jesus
He came and lived like one of us
On a cross He died for me.
I have faith and that’s the Key.

Without You Lord, I am nothing.
To my sin, I’d be holding
I’d look but wouldn’t find love or peace of mind
On my own, I am just wandering.
You come chasing, you keep speaking
I hear your voice, after me calling
My stubborn soul, tries to stand tall and alone
Lord, my heart is falling.

Let’s give praise to Jesus
He came and lived like one of us
On a cross He died for me.
I have faith and that’s the Key.

I know His praise, this day I’ll sing
Let the world see, to him I cling.
With grace that comes from above, I know the King
To God, this day, faith I bring.
My God and King, Today I sing
I bring my praise to you this day
I will sow seeds of hope, if I may
In you, may my faith, grow today.

To my sin, I’d be holding on
I’d look but wouldn’t find love or peace of mind
On my own, I am just wandering.
You come chasing, you keep speaking
I hear your voice, after me calling
My stubborn soul, tries to stand tall and alone
Lord, my heart is falling.
You’d better praise Jesus
He sure lived like one of us
On a cross He died for me.
I have faith and that’s the Key.
I know His praise, this day I’ll sing
Let the world see, to him I cling.
With grace that comes from above, I know the King
To God, this day, faith I bring.
My God and King, Today I sing
I bring my praise to you this day

Let’s give praise to Jesus
He came and lived like one of us
On a cross He died for me.
I have faith and that’s the Key.

Let’s give praise to Jesus
He came and lived like one of us
On a cross He died for me.
I have faith and that’s the Key.

He Wants Me

I am getting to the point that I love Saturdays more now than ever. When I started My Song Saturday, it was a way to share some of my music. It also keeps me writing. I know Saturday is coming and I need to have something ready. In that way, it is just like Sunday.

I really don’t remember if Love Lifted Me was on that list of hymns that fell out of a book, and I was ready to get on the road. The sooner we left the sooner we would get there.

Though this song did not have the history for lack of a better word, as “Standing on the Promises,” “Showers of Blessing,” and “O For a Thousand Tongues to sing, but I love the old hymn I used as the basis for this song. The song, one of my favorites, “Love Lifted Me.” The title of the song I wrote., “He Wants Me.”

He Wants Me

[Verse 1]
I was sitting in my pew, waiting for church to start.
Thinking ‘bout a bowl of stew, my wife’s work of art.
When through the door, came Pastor Shore, looking I knew the score.
He said, “Go and, serve the world, and give God more.”

[Chorus]
He wanted me as a worker bee.
I wanted for me to be me and not be seen.
He wanted me to forget green fees
He said, “go and be a trustee, and give God more.”

[Verse 2]
I was thinking; that’s a job, I want no work to do.
Someone else can do the work and give the offering too.
I thought, “I’ll go find a new church where nothing else is due.
I heard a voice say, “Jonah’s choice, but grace for you.”

[Chorus]
He wanted me as a worker bee.
I wanted for me to be me and not be seen.
He wanted me to forget green fees
He said, “go and be a trustee, and give God more.”

[Verse 3]
My life is full with kids and work, daily I need more time.
To work my hours and then go home, that is a dream of mine.
I’ve looked and staff is cut to the bone, looking to save a dime
He said, there’s still work to do, make your prayer prime.

[Chorus]
He wanted me as a worker bee.
I wanted for me to be me and not be seen.
He wanted me to forget green fees
He said, “go and be a trustee, and give God more.”

[Verse 4]
Today I went and walked the dog, and thought on my tithes to church Church budget looks bleak and finances weak ministry is hard on the purse But God gave us all, a stewardship call, be joyful, give tithes, not a curse. My budget’s a mess, it causes me stress, I give, I’m blest..

[Chorus]
He wanted me as a worker bee.
I wanted for me to be me and not be seen.
He wanted me to forget green fees
He said, “go and be a trustee, and give God more.”

[Verse 5]
I always thought that others should give, I needn’t do my part
Remember to pray, be present and give, living the vows is an art
We share out of faith, we share our gifts, it puts us on a great start
What we give shows love for God, its not Walmart.

[Chorus]
He wanted me as a worker bee.
I wanted for me to be me and not be seen.
He wanted me to forget green fees
He said, “go and be a trustee, and give God more.”

What is your mission? What are you most passionate about? How can you use your passion to build the Kingdom of God? It is up to you.

Blessings to you this Saturday.

Keith
